Maintaining the integrity of products is complex and multifaceted, considerando los retos en cadena de suministro, diseño de producto y empaque, y estrategias para la gestión de riesgos. At this, Baxter resolvió que la adopción de estándares GS1 para el sector salud, podía facilitar el uso de estrategias de salida y tecnologías que aseguraran el movimiento adecuado de los productos a lo largo de la cadena de suministro, as well as helping professionals to verify proper administration of medicines to patients in need adequate time. On this basis, in 2007 a comprehensive program was launched in the company's products to safeguard against piracy or possible forgery. A series of evaluations were conducted, as economic incentives, supply chain and product complexity, inter alia. Based on these evaluations the company prioritized certain product lines in some places for conducting pilots. The highest priority products and markets were identified for initial implementation using standard, alineando el proceso con los requerimientos establecidos por el California Board of Pharmacy ePedigree. Después de esta implementación la empresa se ha dado cuenta que la adopción de estándares y la señalización de componentes no consiste solamente en la colocación un código de barras a un producto, sino que el proceso requiere habilidades en áreas de manufactura para generar los componentes tecnológicos involucrados y entonces poder rastrear los datos. Los pasos involucrados fueron: Casi todos los productos pueden ser leídos en almacenes, operadores logísticos, clientes y por las propias enfermeras y pacientes para tratamientos del cuidado de la salud en casa, considerando todos los niveles empaque. Some of the relevant factors in the implementation had to do with a complex process of educating all stakeholders involved (both within the organization and with all those external factors to it), training provided by GS1 for the development and assignment of barcodes, system selection and equipment, the definition of a validation process to show the reliability of the process, understanding the impact of labeling and packaging process considering regulatory requirements, understanding of the operational impacts and integration between different systems including the organization of the plant.(GS1, 2012, 2) ### Sources of interest - Alatorre, A.
